Harvest

17 October 2026

If you ever want to experience both the adrenaline of anticipation and the exhilarating stress of the workload, visit a winery during harvest.

This issue, we have two articles about harvest. one from Ezra in Yarra Valley and the other of mine at Markus Molitor. I asked Ezra why he chose to do a harvest; after all, getting their fingernails filled with tannin and skin wrinkled from washing is not exactly most sommeliers' idea of the wine world.

He told me he needed to see what is actually happening behind the scenes to better understand the product itself. I couldn't agree more.

Harvest seems like the end for that vintage, but in truth it's only the beginning. Then comes the long process of patiently waiting for the wine to ferment and then age further. But a good bottle of wine starts from the vineyard, and a good life starts from having good foundations.
